Prosthetic Eye

What is a prosthetic eye (artificial eye)?

A prosthetic eye is used for cosmetic purposes in patients who have lost an eye either congenitally or through surgical removal. These prosthetics do not contribute to the visual function of the eye.

What are the steps for fitting a prosthetic eye?

The first step is preparing the eye socket for the prosthesis. During the removal of the eye, a small ball (implant) is placed in the eye socket. After a few weeks, a mold of the eye socket is taken, and the prosthetic eye is prepared. The prosthetic eye is then placed in the eye socket, and final adjustments are made based on its fit and appearance.
