Corneal Topography

The cornea is a transparent, dome-shaped part of the eye that is located in front of the colored iris, resembling a clear piece of hourglass glass. Topography is a diagnostic method that provides information about the structure of the cornea. It is used to evaluate both the front and back surfaces of the cornea, creating a map with concentric circles, which helps assess the cornea's curvature. As the curvature increases, the color on the map shifts towards red. This method measures the cornea's anterior surface, posterior surface, corneal thickness, anterior chamber depth, corneal diameter, and refractive power. It is an important diagnostic tool, especially before corneal surgery and for monitoring patients with keratoconus.
