Biometry is an ultrasonic eye measurement performed before cataract surgery. The front-to-back length of the eyeball is determined, and by adding the corneal curvature as a parameter, detailed information about the optical system of the eye being examined is obtained.
Biometry allows us to determine the power (diopter) of the lens to be implanted during cataract surgery. After the surgery, the patient may be able to see adequately without glasses or with only low-powered glasses. As the measurement is non-contact, the patient experiences no discomfort.
